Welcome to Angwin

Exclusive wineries and mountain views shine in this tranquil Napa Valley town

Make your way up Howell Mountain’s winding road, go past the gorgeous rolling hills and surreal panoramic views, keep going up and up through the Napa Valley fog, and there you’ll find the charming town of Angwin nestled near the peak of the mountain. The drive alone is impressive, but the real gem is this small community with big wines. Part of the American Viticultural Area, Angwin is home to some of the most celebrated winemakers and varietals in the world.

The relaxing spa vibe that Angwin locals so enjoy has been a part of the community ever since Edwin Angwin first bought a large piece of land here in the late 1800s to build his own personal resort. The landscape has inspired architectural innovation, and homes here range from classic California Mission and Tuscan-influenced designs to the best of contemporary architecture.

This secluded hideaway is the perfect spot for those looking to get away from it all but still want access to the best of luxury, fine dining, and wineries. Whether you spend a day hiking through the incredible landscape or kick back at one of the top-notch vineyard estates, once you get a taste of this mountain top town, you’ll never want to leave.

People & Lifestyle

Angwin offers its residents privacy, peace, and stunning panoramic views of mountain top vineyards. Life here is both lavish and tranquil, and locals are quick to extol the many virtues of living on The Hill, as they affectionately call Howell Mountain.

Quiet and secluded, Angwin is perfect for those who love nature. Hiking trails and sunshine abound, making this peaceful enclave ideal for outdoor activities. On the other hand, wine enthusiasts will be in absolute heaven with the concentration of the world’s best wineries.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

When your own backyard is American Viticultural territory, there’s always something new to drink. One of the best ways to do it is at the Gold Certified CADE Winery. This 54-acre estate is known for its stunning selection of Cabernet Sauvignons, wine club, gorgeous setting for private events, and, of course, a full schedule of tastings and tours.

Sit, sip, and take in the breathtaking views at the historic Burgess Cellars. Founded in 1972, this hillside winery offers tastings overlooking the grounds, and even a garden flight, which pairs wine with the fresh vegetables and edible flowers from the estate garden.

Called the “God of Cabernet,” Bob Foley has been making wine since 1977. He has founded multiple Napa wineries, including the Foley Vineyards. Stop by for a tasting, tour, and a snuggle from Princess Bella, the winery cat.

Another must-taste experience is at Lamborn Family Vineyards, the first “Family Vineyard” label in the country. This generations-old, organic estate offers Napa Valley Cabernet and Zinfandel from famed winemaker Heidi Barrett.

Things to Do

Although Howell Mountain is renowned for growing top-notch grapes because of its unique combination of sunshine, cool mountain air, and rocky soil, this famous appellation also provides one of the most beautiful roadways in America. Rising above the fog, the mountain offers incredible views of the entire valley. Take a scenic drive up the mountain, or hike one of the many trails. It’ll be love at first sight!

When you’re finished marveling over the majestic views, stop in for a sip at the O’Shaughnessy Estate. This hillside winery spans 120 acres and focuses on small quantities of Cabernet Sauvignon.

Take wine tasting to another level at Meadowood Napa Valley. This spa and resort is the home of the Learning Center, which offers specialized classes in wine appreciation and culture. From blind taste testing and wine history to label art and the basics of building a wine cellar, the team of professional sommeliers guides you from wine enthusiast to seasoned vintner. Take a day of self-care at the Spa, or enjoy poolside dining at the Terrace Café.

Once you’ve had your fill of the idyllic hillsides and mountain views, go underground at Arkenstone, a small subterranean winery. Try their Enhanced Experience wine tasting for special barrel samples.

The Calistoga lifestyle isn’t complete without its world-famous wine, and Castello di Amorosa is just the place to taste it. Known for its Italian-inspired wines, this 13th century-style winery offers tastings, castle tours, and a wine club.

Schools

Angwin is home to Pacific Union College. This private, liberal arts college is Napa County’s only four-year college.
